Phison Electronics (8299.TW), the industry leader in NAND Flash controller and solutions, has released a diversified SSD controller portfolio in 2018. As 3D NAND production increases in 2018 and the cost hitting the sweet spot, the number of SSD projects surges, surpassing previous expectations. Phison has confirmed over 35 designs for the SATA PS3111-S11 and PCIe PS5008-E8/E8T controllers. The new powerful PCIe PS5012-E12 is receiving an overwhelming response from the market with more than 20 projects kicking-off in a single month. With a total of over 100 SSD controller project secured, Phison as a top 3rd party SSD controller IC manufacturer, is expecting an increase in product shipments and an increase in market share.

CS Ma, Chief Technology Officer, commented that the success of PS5012-E12 is the result of the company’s long-term technology investment and advancement. Many 3rd party competitive analysis reports show that Phison’s flagship PS5012-E12 is a best-in-class PCIe Gen3x4 NVMe SSD controller. In addition to achieving the PCI-SIG compliance certification, Phison released an enterprise optimized, PS5012-E12DC, to serve cloud, edge computing, block chain storage, and other high-end applications, driving a wide range of project designs and penetrating the new markets.

Phison’s flagship PCIe SSD controller, PS5012, utilizes a TSMC 28nm process. It maximizes the PCIe Gen 3x4 interface for read and write speeds of up to 3,450MB/s and 3,150MB/s respectively. It can reach device capacity of up to 8TB. The PS5012-E12 based drives are capable of 600K in 4K random read/write performances (IOPS), nearly doubling competitor’s results. PS5012-E12’s top-of-the-line performance will meet the requirements of various high-end applications where the storage speed becomes critical, such as artificial intelligence, mobile gaming computing, and enterprise data center applications. The PS5012 also supports Thunderbolt^TM3 external SSD designs, caching the Windows-based systems with impressive burst speed and improved user experience.

Phison plans its portfolio carefully, horizontally across different interfaces and vertically over the latest NAND technologies. Phison’s utmost priority is to provide effective and reliable firmware solutions for the current mainstream TLC NAND and the next generations QLC NAND. The proprietary SmartECC^TM is specifically designed for 3D TLC and QLC NAND of 96-layers or more. Phison Electronics (8299.TW), industry leader in flash controller and NAND solutions, will be displaying its latest flash technologies at COMPUTEX 2018 in Taipei, Taiwan. In the private showroom Phison will demonstrate the PS5012-E12 PCIe Gen 3x4 NVMe SSD controller, which is now available for customer sampling.

PS5012-E12, the ultra-high performance SSD controller, delivers best in class speeds over 3400 MB/s sequential read and over 3000 MB/s sequential write, with random 4K up to 600,000 IOPS read and 600,000 IOPS write performance.  The controller supports up to 8TB and is available in the M.2, U.2, and AIC form factors.

With the E12 reaching close to the theoretical bandwidth of 4GB/s for PCIe Gen 3x4, it is the perfect solution for the gaming and high-end PC market.  The innovative CoXprocessor 2.0 allows the E12 to gain an impressive advantage in sequential write performance that cannot be matched.  It also allows for an unprecedented 600,000 IOPs random 4k read / write performance for a client SSD.

The controller utilizes an advanced 28nm process technology.  Equipped with an ultra-compact and low-power LDPC 3.0 ECC engine designed for the latest 3D TLC and upcoming QLC flash memory.  The controller can support up to 8 channel and 32 chip enables (CE).

PS5012-E12DC, the enterprise optimized solution of PS5012, is tuned for maximize endurance, low latency, and sustained performance consistency, targeting the enterprise data center and cloud environments.  This enterprise controller is set for customer sampling in early Q3, 2018.

Phison will be showcasing its latest flash technologies at COMPUTEX Taipei June 5-9, 2018.  In the showcase will be the E12 Client SSD, a preview of the upcoming PS3112-S12, a SATA III SSD controller, a UFS card that delivers SSD performance for mobile devices, and Thunderbolt^TM 3 external SSDs that now released by several branded partners.  Also to address the emerging IoT and AI market trend, Phison will showcase an SD/microSD card solution made specifically for video surveillance, and launch its latest fingerprint-secured USB flash drive.
