Phison’s Max IOPS microSD card is your Android’s new best friend!
September 28th, 2016
Phison Electronics is proud to announce its Max IOPS microSD solutions series targeting Android users! Phison’s Max IOPS microSD guarantees the best “adopted storage” experience, especially for those using Android 6.0 (the Marshmallow) and above. With its optimized high IOPS, Phison’s Max IOPS microSD is a crucial asset boosting performance-intensive operations in Android phones.
What is “Adopted Storage”?
With the release of Android 6.0(the Marshmallow) a new feature officially named “Adopted Storage” was introduced, enabling cellphones with a microSD slot to “adopt” the storage of an inserted microSD. Specifically, this allows the external storage to merge with the device’s embedded storage, combining into a single large “storage pool”.
Max IOPS Ensures Compatible Adoptable Storage
In order to be adopted as internal storage, the microSD would require benchmarking by the Android device. The external storage device must pass this benchmark or it is incapable of being utilized as adopted storage.
HTC10 (left) Chinese ver. & HTC A9 (right) indicating your microSD is too slow to be adopted!!
Android’s benchmark is a simulation performance test, with the read\write speed and IOPS of the microSD as the major factors for performance and ultimately determining the compatibility for adopted storage.
To better gauge acceptable criteria for adopted storage, SD 5.1 introduced “App Performance class” , a new rating system focused on cataloguing microSD performances for demanding applications. Phison’s Max IOPS series readily meets the SD5.1 specification: A1 App Performance criteria (1500R/500W), ensuring future compatibility with modern Android phones.
Considering these requirements for high performing cards, Phison’s Max IOPS series guarantee the best adopted microSD experience with its maximized IOPS performance. Not only does it meets SD 5.1 specification criteria of “App Performance class-A1”, it also boasts impressive benchmarks that tops all other world class SD developers.
Phison Max IOPs solutions is proven to have the shortest benchmark run time, ensuring the ideal experience for adopted storage users. Phison’s PS8210 is Max IOPS ready for smartphones and tablets, with up to 64GB of storage and 15nm TLC NAND Flash.

Phison is 8k Video Ready with its new SD 5.0 compliant Video Speed Class SD/microSD Solutions
Septembre 2nd, 2016
As a world leading NAND flash solution provider, Phison has always been working on expanding the compatibility of its memory cards --- and Phison now announces that its memory cards are now ready to support SD 5.0 compliant Video Speed Class.
Product support list of Phison solutions:
SD 5.0, more commonly referred to as VIDEO SPEED CLASS (VSC), is the fastest high-quality video speed class up to date. VSC was introduced by the SDA to support 8K AND MULTI-FILE VIDEO RECORDING at the Camera and Photo Imaging Show of 2016.
SD Speed Rating & VSC
The SDA has determined three rating standards — normal Speed Class marked with Class 2, 4, 6 and 10 (DS, HS mode), UHS Speed Classes marked with U1 and U3 (UHS mode), and Video Speed Class marked with V6, V10, V30, V60, V90 (HS, UHS mode). VSC enables conventional Speed Class and UHS Speed Class and is designed to optimize modern NAND memory technology for high resolution & high quality video recording.
SDA produced shortclip of VSC and corresponding video format applications : https://youtu.be/HZSf2bKp9P0

What makes VSC a must?
SD 5.0 Video Speed Class was introduced to:
- Provide faster recording for video technology of the future
• Enable the future use of NAND technology in SD memory cards
• Support new standard protocol for hosts/applications to efficiently write to SD memory cards.
In order to take advantage of this new standard, users simply need to use SD5.0 compliant memory cards with the recommended applications and they can experience the smoothest file recording and playback possible.
The developers refined the SD 5.0 specification to ensure that the cards were backwards compatible with previous speed class definitions. This feature allows users to use the memory card with any type and grade of video recording applications out in the market, drastically reducing any hassle and confusion.
Phison’s controllers PS8036, PS8036, PS8039, and P8210 for SD/microSD solutions will be fully compliant with SD 5.0 VSC by the end of 2016.
