Maintaining Coastal Ecosystems, the "Coastal Forest Restoration Long-term Plan" Enters Its Fourth Year

Phison has launched the "Coastal Forest Restoration Long-term Plan" since 2021, and has led volunteers to plant Linden hibiscus, Pandanus odoratissimus and Casuarina equisetifolia saplings adapted to the coastal environment on the coastline for four consecutive years. In 2024, a total of 1,000 trees were selected to be planted in the Maoerding section, Zhubei City, Hsinchu County, and Jixin and Jibao sections, Yilan County. In addition, a coastal tree planting event was held on April 13 at the seaside land of Zhubei New Moon Beach to join hands with Tse-Xin Organic Agriculture Foundation (TOAF) to maintain the stability of the coastline and protect the ecological environment.

In 2023, the powerful Typhoon Saola caused Taiwan's coastline to shrink again. In order to re-solidify the sand, the TOAF urgently built fences and planted trees in New Moon Beach, and now it is showing its initial results. During the tour guide, the Phison’s volunteers witnessed the effectiveness of coastal tree planting with their own eyes, and were deeply moved when they saw the soil and sand that had begun to accumulate again. Compared with tetrapod that treat the symptoms but not the root cause, tree planting is the best solution to prevent land loss. In addition, tree planting can improve air quality, regulate climate, and enhance the stability and sustainability of coastal ecosystems.

After listening to the above sharing of environmental knowledge, the 38 Phison volunteers were full of motivation. Following the professional guidance of TOAF’s volunteers, they planted water-storing tree planters one by one with their own hands, hoping to do their part for the earth.
